Strengthening Maternal Health Through Knowledge in Togo
As part of our ongoing commitment to women’s empowerment and community wellbeing in Togo, our partners IADES, through its Bonjour Bébé service, recently organised targeted training sessions for members of our Women’s Empowerment Collectives. The focus of the sessions was a critical maternal health issue: the threat of premature birth.
The training equipped women with practical, lifesaving knowledge. Participants learned to recognise the early warning signs of premature birth, understand the risks involved, and take appropriate action when concerns arise. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of regular prenatal care in safeguarding the health of both mother and baby.
Beyond technical information, the sessions created a safe and supportive space for dialogue. Women actively shared personal experiences, asked questions, and discussed best practices for healthy pregnancies. These exchanges strengthened collective learning and reinforced the role of women as key actors in their own health and in their communities.
The high level of engagement and attentiveness from participants reflected a strong desire to learn and to protect maternal and child health. By empowering women with knowledge and confidence, Deki is helping to reduce preventable risks and promote healthier outcomes for families.
Through initiatives like this, we continue to place women at the centre of sustainable development, reinforcing its commitment to the wellbeing of women, children, and communities across Togo.
