Giving the gift of life through safe water.

Safe Water

Water is a human right. Together we can help provide vulnerable communities with access to safe water and break free from the cycle of poverty.

Many rural families in Togo rely on unsafe water sources. Often, water is either consumed untreated, leading to illness and disease, or purified over open fires which contributes to high carbon emissions and deforestation.

The collection of water and fuel is also a chore that disproportionately affects women and young children, reducing their time to generate income and attend education. Deki’s Safe Water Programme is designed with the community at its heart. By working locally and sustainably, we create solutions that last - giving families the resources they need to thrive independently.

‘Waterborne diseases alone kill more than 1,200 young children every day worldwide, despite being largely preventable.’ — UNICEF data on diarrhoeal disease mortality in children under five.

At Deki, we work with local partners to ensure communities have access to safe, and sustainable water sources. Our approach is simple yet impactful: we rehabilitate boreholes to restore access to safe drinking water, reducing reliance on unsafe or unsustainable alternatives.

With only 17% of households in Togo having access to handwashing facilities with soap and water, we also provide vital water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) training to empower communities to reduce the spread of fatal disease.

Since 2022, we successfully rehabilitated 281 boreholes bringing safe water to over 140,000 people. We have created 281 new mamma clubs, training 7,025 women in WASH, These women have now become community advocates, leaders, and powerful role models for their children.
