Deki Profile Writer

Do you have a spare few hours every week and are looking to do something good in that time? Maybe you're retired, or even a new parent wanting to get back into work?

Position: Deki Profile Writer
Duration: 2+ months
Part-time: A few hours per week

Bristol-based charity Deki is a microfinance charity that empowers African entrepreneurs to work their way out of poverty by providing life changing loans and business training. Deki lenders can make loans from as little as £10 via our crowdfunding website, and 100% of all money lent goes directly to the chosen entrepreneur - lenders are paid back over the next 12 months.

People in developing countries often don’t have access to financial services to start their business. Yet these are honest, hard-working people motivated by the same things as most of us: they want to make something of their lives, feed their families and send their children to school. Deki’s vision is for a world of opportunity, not poverty.

Deki’s success is dependent on many things; and one of them is the quality of our entrepreneur profiles and biographies – the important blurb where our lenders find out everything they need to know about the Deki entrepreneur’s life and business plan.

In 2016 we lent our millionth pound and changed over 40,000 lives in the process. 2017 is set to be an even bigger year and we know that we’re going to be changing more lives than we could possibly have imagined. This also means we’re going to have even more entrepreneur profiles to write!

We’re looking for someone who is reliable and highly motivated, to help us write our profiles. The role will involve learning about Deki’s entrepreneurs and the countries they live in, and creating an emotive biography that encourages lending. The role is ideal for someone who has a spare day or two to give back, do something good and would love an exercise in writing – maybe you’re retired or you’re a new parent wanting to get back into work. The ideal candidate will be able to spare a few hours a week for a minimum of 2 months, however we can be flexible with regard to hours/days worked.

What we offer:

  • An opportunity to be part of an exciting, fast growing charity
  • To be part of friendly team - based in Stokes Croft (near the centre of Bristol)
  • Daily expenses to cover lunch and travel

Start date: as soon as possible.

To apply, email deki@deki.org.uk with your CV and cover letter.
