UWE and Deki Launch Student Fundraising Competition

UWE and Deki Launch Student Fundraising Competition

Deki and UWE are calling all UWE students, alumni and staff!

As part of the UWE-Deki Partnership UWE (University of the West of England) and Deki are launching The Deki Tenner Tournament this week. The challenge is to make as much money as possible from £10 in the month of February. The team or individual raising the most money with the initial £10 will be Tournament champions and win a prize of £250 Love2shop vouchers.

All funds raised will go towards supporting the Deki entrepreneurs in Togo, Malawi and Nepal.

The Tournament runs for the whole month of February 2013 and will be kicked off with an ideas generation workshop in the UWE Frenchay Campus on 24th January featuring an inspirational speaker and lots of brilliant ideas for the fundraising challenge.

About the Partnership

The UWE & Deki Partnership was launched in August 2012 with the aim to engage UWE students and staff and to provide exciting volunteer opportunities for UWE students.

As part of the partnership Deki will ship 100 used computers to Togo to be used for a youth led internet café initiative and two UWE students will travel to Togo to help set the venture up.

How does the Tournament work?

You or your team will be given an interest-free loan of £10 for the 28 days of  February. Your core goal is to turn that £10 into as much money as possible.

The money you raise will go to entrepreneurs in the developing world to invest in their businesses, increasing their income long-term, allowing them to better support themselves and their families.

What you do to make money is entirely up to you. You can run your fundraising business in any of these three categories or build from the smallest up:

Micro Business: Your £10 loan can start a small business such as a home made cookie sale or a dog walking business.

Enterprise: with your profits you could put on a ‘come dine with me’ event, give beauty treatments or you could recycle something old to create something new.

Your Big Idea: Now all money raised can be put into creating your big idea. This could be charity shop fashion show, a music night or a pop-up shop.
