Neeta's Story
Microloan Helps to Set up Shop and Chicken Farm

Neeta Rana Magar is from a small family. She has three children - a son and two daughters. Before becoming a member of Hatemalo cooperative (Deki's field partner in Nepal) she had no work. The family income was only earned by her husband who was a worker carrying loads on construction sites.
In the cooperative they gained knowledge about savings and loans. Neeta has taken four loans through Hatemalo. Currently she is using a loan provided by Deki. Now she owns a small shop where she sells daily goods, tea for nearby workers, and doughnuts. She also has a small chicken farm of her own. All of her family members depend upon the shop. They all take turns to work in the shop.
She used the loan from Deki to buy some extra goods for her shop and started a small chicken farm by buying 100 chicks. Before she used to sell goods in nanglo (a round structure made of bamboo) on the road but now she owns a small shop near the road. She earns extra income from the chicken farm by selling the chickens once they are fully grown. Recently she was able to install a local telephone in the shop.
She says: "The loan provided by Deki has changed my life - now I can now afford to pay school and other fees for my children."
