Jemila's Story
Microloan funds a food vendor to open restaurant
Jemila Imoro, 54, lives in Choggu, in the Northern Region of Ghana, with her husband and their four children. She works as a local food vendor.
With Jamilia's husband being a pensioner and unable to work, the family had been facing serious financial difficulties, relying solely on Jamilia's small business of cooking and selling "Wakye", a boiled meal consisting of rice and beans. The business was small and profits generated so small that supporting her husband and children "became a nightmare".
After applying for and receiving an £350 loan from Deki's field partner CEDIS, Jamilia was finally able to invest in her business, her first step being the construction of a shed from where she could cook and sell her meals.
This loan resulted in a tremendous improvement and growth in Jamilia's business, and her family's financial difficulties are a thing of the past.
Jamilia is now able to be proud of her business and achievements, and has begun negotiations to buy a piece of land on which to build a restaurant. With this prospect on the horizon, Jamila and her family can look forward to a more secure future.
