Abla's Story
Mother in Togo Gets Business Mentoring and a Loan to Boost Business

Abla Azanlenko lives in Lomè, the capital of Togo. She is a mother who supports her family running a small business selling everyday products such as sugar, soap and food items. Before she received a microloan through Deki and our field partner CODA, providing for the family was a struggle.
Once she received her loan of £390, she was able to buy sugar in larger quantities and much cheaper directly from the port of Lomè. She sells it by the bowl from her home and her business is flourishing. She is also breeding pigs for sale, having bought one male and one female. She also plans to broaden the range of products she buys from the port to include rice, wheat and canned food.
As well as facilitating the loan, CODA have provided Abla with advice regarding the running of her business. Abla says: "CODA taught me what I should do to increase my sales revenue, and how to manage my expenses to make a profit."
The loan has had a noticeable impact on Abla's family's quality of life. She no longer has trouble paying her children's school fees and is optimistic about the future.
"I am sure that with the benefits I make of this loan from DEKI, in two years I can build a house. I want to thank CODA and Deki."
