Episode 5: Deki News – March 2010 - 28/03/2010
Welcome to this edition of the Deki Blog, where I’ll be giving you another quick update on what’s been happening here at Deki. It’s been quite a while since we shared any news on the Blog, so I’ll have to summarise everything quickly. The photo with this episode of the blog shows some Ghanaian handicrafts, photographed by yours truly in the town of Paga in Northern Ghana.
We are continuing to evaluate a few new potential field partners, and hope to have some news to share with the Deki community in the next few weeks. We look forward to being able to offer you more choice in terms of where your borrowers are located, and are examining possibilities in several parts of the world. It’s important to us, however, that we ensure that any field partners dealing with your money are both financially secure and helping local people. That is the reason why it takes such a considerable amount of time to reach agreements with potential partner microfinance institutions, because we want to ensure that the money you lend through Deki is really making a difference.
We are also engaged in the process of becoming a registered charity in England and Wales, and we think there should be some good news on this to share with you in the coming months. In preparation for Deki becoming a charity, our Founder and CEO, Vashti Richards, has been talking about Deki on local radio and television in Bristol and around the UK. Keep your ears and eyes open and you might hear or see her talking about Deki, what we do and how we help people in the UK and elsewhere make a difference in developing countries.
You can now follow Deki on Twitter!

If you have a question about Deki, about what we do, or about microfinance in general, please get in touch with me and I’ll do everything I can to answer your question in upcoming episodes of the Deki Blog. Don’t be shy, get in touch! In the coming weeks you can check back here to read stories about the borrowers that you may have lent to, as well as updates and news about Deki and the Deki community.
Thanks for reading!
