Episode 4: Deki News – January 2010 - 29/01/2010
In this episode of the Deki blog, I would like to share with you some of the things that are happening at the moment here at Deki.
As I mentioned before the holiday period, Deki are currently expanding our
operations by searching for new field partners. At the moment we are in the process of developing a field partnership in Latin America, which when finalised will give Deki’s lenders a wider range of choices in terms of whom and where they can lend to. We are also in the final stages of developing a new system for choosing and evaluating potential partner microfinance institutions, which when finished will ensure in future that the money you lend through Deki is going to support financially stable, socially responsible borrowing by entrepreneurs in developing countries. I plan to have more to share with you on both of these issues in the coming weeks.
Deki is also looking at the possibility of partnering with a Haitian microfinance institution, which would enable you to play a direct role in helping the people of Haiti to rebuild their lives after the recent devastating earthquake. There may be many difficulties in forming such a partnership due to the ongoing critical situation in Haiti, which can make it difficult to contact people and organisations there. We are continuing to keep track of the situation in the country, however, and we will hopefully be able to provide a means for the Deki community to help the capable, resilient people of Haiti in the way that you have been helping people in Ghana and Nepal since Deki launched last year.

If you have a question about Deki, about what we do, or about microfinance in general, please get in touch with me and I’ll do everything I can to answer your question in upcoming episodes of the Deki Blog. Don’t be shy, get in touch! In the coming weeks you can check back here to read stories about the borrowers that you may have lent to, as well as updates and news about Deki and the Deki community.
Thanks for reading!
